MvM Demo: Patience is a Virtue
A downloadable game for Windows
I present... a very very early beta version of an MvM Game Demo, released for MAGS.
This is not a full episode, only a demo of a single boss battle that I would like to include in a future release.
Your opponent in this match is one I think we've all struggled with in this competition. I know I have. It is a demon that bends our perception and causes time to get away from us, making us procrastinate, rush, or otherwise use our time unwisely. It leaves chaos in its wake.
I don't expect any votes, but I'd appreciate any feedback. I would like to know how people enjoy the textmode aesthetics and basic combat mechanics of my game that I plan to make many future games based upon in the years to come, when time permits. I know it's a little clunky right now and leaves a lot to be desired. Definitely needs cleaning up. But hopefully you can get a feel for it. It will be easier to use in the future.
Controls:
Type Scriptures into the text parser at the top of the screen and press enter to exorcise the Warp Worm. You have 9 minutes to quote about 10 verses. Right now the wording has to be exact, and only the first 40 Psalms in the King James Version of the Bible are supported.
Note: Not all verses may be effective. You may have to find Scriptures that are specific to having Patience to cast this timesucking Demon out.
In future releases I plan to also implement weapons, prayers, co-op and "Devil's Advocate" modes, the whole Bible, as well as adding other translations of the Bible, the Apocrypha and other extracanonical texts, including a built in Bible and allowing for minor differences in wording, color cycling, etc. Plus the Scriptures that are used will be specific to the Vice the Demon possesses, and there will be stat bars for each Virtue that you level up in. There will be a lot more features then, God willing. I have already started working on these, but they are not ready to release. Right now it is basically just a memory game.
Known bugs:
It's a little slow when you submit a verse. This is likely due to the fact that I've stored over 12,000 words in the parser that it has to search. I'll have to look for ways to speed it up.
If you use a different version of the Bible than King James, at this moment, it may cause a game crash. I am working on fixing it and adding other translations, but for now just stick to the KJV. I'm having too much trouble updating the text parser right now for some reason.
When I lose and the game restarts, I get an error that says it can't find the last save file. This may not be an issue for anyone else, may just be on my end. Shouldn't affect gameplay.
Please let me know if you come across any other glitches!
